Professor Khaled Abdel Hay, at present, is the president of the National Water Research Centre (NWRC) of Egypt (April 2018). Since 1986 he occupied several professional positions including Senior Researcher in Eco-Hydraulics Department, Water & Power Research Center, Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority between 1999 and 2008 and, Director of Hydraulics Research Institute (HRI) of the National Water Research Center. He received, in 1994, his M.Sc. in Coastal Engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt and he received, in 1997, his PhD in Coastal Engineering from Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University. He has vast qualifications in the hydraulic design of power and desalination plants, Environmental impact assessment studies and water quality modelling, Experience in numerical and physical hydrodynamic modelling, Field measurements and hydrometric data analysis, Tidal waves and short waves related phenomena, Coastal processes and morphology, Design of coastal protection measures and, Oil spill modelling.
