Egyptian coasts extend over 3,500 kilometers, with two thirds along the Red Sea and the coasts of the Sinai Peninsula. The coasts along the Red Sea are characterized by diversified natural, environmental and social features and are well known for extended coral reef communities, with their rich marine life. Therefore, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation (MWRI) represented by the General Egyptian Shore Protection Authority (SPA) contracted the National Water Research Center (NWRC) to carry out a study to develop a shoreline management plan for red sea coastal areas. The main objective of the study is to establish the coastal setback line in the Rea Sea in coordination with the relevant stakeholders taking into account impacts of climate induced sea level rise.
